Dr. Anne Myers Phillips ’43 passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, aged 98. Beloved mother of Jane, John, Carolyn and Richard; mother-in-law to Penny and Anthony; grandmother to Christopher, Sarah, Clare and Sophia and great grandmother to Chloe. A trailblazer for women’s health, supporter of the arts, environment, social justice and health. She will be dearly missed.
Barbara Stanley Sinclair ’49 peacefully passed away on December 22, 2023 in Amherstview, Ontario. Beloved mother of Heather, Judy Pawling (John) and Ian Sinclair (Lorene) and grandmother to Sabrina, Stuart, Fiona, and Brianna.
Elizabeth Moir Gartshore Young ’47 passed away on November 23, 2023, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Known as ‘Liz’, she was practical, pragmatic, and had a wonderful sense of humour. Liz’s shy demeanour belied a grace and intelligence that fostered numerous friendships in her adopted country. Her significant accomplishments and warm spirit are deeply missed by many.

Claire Applegath Keith Larsen ’51, passed away on May 17 2022 at Parkland at the Lakes, Dartmouth Nova Scotia. Havergal College is where she formed lifelong friends and was a proud “old girl” and was where she developed a passion for sports of all kinds. She was an avid badminton player, swimmer and curler but her love was always golf.

Margaret Szucs Fitch ’51, ended her life journey on September 29, 2022, surrounded by her children, John Alexander Szucs and Julia Ann Szucs, and her cherished “helper” Teresa. A strong-willed, independent woman, she was an accomplished law librarian, devoted music lover, and active community volunteer who will be greatly missed.

Mary Southey McCarter ’51, passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, predeceased by her husband, John, and survived by her children and grandchildren. A devoted community member and avid traveller, she will be deeply missed.

Joan Taylor Atkin ’51, passed away on November 2, 2023. A free spirit and inspired artist, Joan lived a vibrant life filled with love, family, and friends, and she will be deeply missed.

Barbara Cleghorn ’55, Passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2024 with family at her side. Barbara was very proud to be an Old Girl, was a teacher in the Toronto School Board, then taught for many years in the Ottawa School Board, retiring in 1996 from Cambridge Street Public School.
Diana Pennington ’54, quietly slipped away, at Red River Place in Selkirk, where she has resided for many years since leaving her beloved Tehani at Victoria Beach.

Jane Gunn Warner ’54, Passed away on her own terms on April 16, 2023. “Gunner” was a graduate of U of T and an Alpha Phi. She lived in Vancouver since 1965 and loved traveling, especially to Maui and on cruises. She was a gardener, needlepointer, cook, and volunteer.
Ann Clarke Rowe ’55, surrounded by her family’s love, Ann peacefully passed away at home on March 26 at age 87, after several years of disability.

Jane Dalton Avery ’55 on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, after a brief illness, Jane passed away. Graduate of Trinity College, the University of Toronto and Havergal College, Toronto. She will be remembered for her sharp intellect, quick wit and penchant for being candid with her thoughts and suggestions.
Barbara Hendry Strange ’56, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023, after a long illness. She was a lovely, caring woman and a great friend to the Havergal Class of 1956. Barbara will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Mary Percival Maxwell ’56 passed away peacefully in Toronto on December 24, 2023. Known for her feminist spirit and contributions in social anthropology and sociology, she will be remembered by family, friends, and colleagues.

Mary Carswell Hartley ’60. Peacefully on Thursday July 13th, 2023. Mary had a love for nature and animals. Whether it was repairing a carburetor or raising baby chicks and ducks in the kitchen, gardening and farming was a great passion. She spent forty-two years enjoying her sugar bush producing Mary’s Marvelous Maple Syrup.

Joanie Kingsmill Roper ’60 passed away peacefully at her home on Saint Simons Island on December 16, 2023. A dedicated volunteer at Havergal College, she was known for her love of dogs, civic activities, and mischievous humour, and will be deeply missed by friends and family.
Byse Cather Pickford ’64 passed away on February 20, 2024. Byse’s home was a haven for any dog or cat in need, her artistic talent was captivated in her animal portraits and landscapes, her athleticism was demonstrated when she single-handedly portaged a canoe across Algonquin Park.

Vivien Ludlow ’65, passed away on January 14, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and creativity cherished by all who knew her. Affectionately known as “Viv” or “Vivi,” was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend in the world of art and film animation.

Lucinda Bray ’65, on June 11, 2023, Lucinda passed away surrounded by her loving family. She will be deeply missed by her partner Deb Brennan, daughter Jez, granddaughter Kajsa, siblings, extended family, and friends.
Pamela Deacon ’66 (May 28, 1947 – December 27, 2023) Pam lived abroad during much of her working life, beginning in Rio de Janeiro as a journalist, and later as a consular official in Nairobi. Pam also led an active life, which included completing the 100km MacLehose trail in Hong Kong (twice), and later cultivating the garden of her dreams on the Ottawa River.

Kathy Weekes Southee ’70, sadly passed away on September 12th, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Rick Southee, and her three children Reg, Hugh, and Meg Southee.
Patricia Ralph ’74 passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Patricia dedicated over thirty years to social work, impacting organizations like Big Brothers and Big Sisters and George Brown College’s Redirection through Education program.

Rosalind Goss ’71, a cherished artist and teacher, passed away on January 16, 2023, at 69. She was a devoted mother to Nathalie and doting grandmother to Penn, known for her artistic passion, gentle teaching at Canada’s National Ballet School, and vibrant engagement with life and social causes.

Deborah Robertson McEvenue ’71, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, after a long battle with cancer in Stratford, Ontario. She is survived by her beloved husband George McEvenue, sister Jennifer Higgins, many nieces and nephews, and her cherished dogs Daisy and Augie.

Sarah Coles ’82, sadly passed away on November 13, 2023. She was deeply loved as a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and devoted teacher. Known for her quiet strength and selflessness, Sarah enjoyed travelling widely, especially in the American Southwest. She retired from McKee Public School in 2020 after a fulfilling teaching career, cherished time with family and friends.

Erin Flynn ’92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind her husband Peter and their children Elle, Luke, and William, who brought her immense joy. Erin’s infectious energy, sense of humour, and loving nature will live on through them, alongside cherished memories of her deep care for animals and her close bond with extended family members, who will all deeply miss her.

Gugu Ndlovu ’92, born in Zambia, excelled in swimming and education before working as a teacher across several countries. Despite a cancer diagnosis in 2018, she remained devoted to her family and community until her passing in 2022.

Miranda Frum ’09 died suddenly of natural causes on Friday, February 16, 2024, at her home in New York at the age of 32. Miranda Frum, beloved daughter of Danielle and David.
